Gas under the floor, with a pipe that bends

by Daniele Lantieri · Published · 1 min read

Yellow flexible gas pipe laid on the bare floor along the wall, before the screed goes down

DRAFT — to be approved.

Running gas from the riser to the kitchen in a renovated flat sounds simple. Then you look at the floor plan: corridors, doorways, a route that turns three times. With rigid pipe every bend is a fitting, and every fitting is a joint to check.

In summer 2021, in a flat in Milan, we went a different way.

A pipe that bends

We used corrugated flexible stainless-steel pipe (CSST) with a protective yellow sleeve. It’s laid on the floor before the screed, along the outer walls, and follows the bends without intermediate fittings.

The material was Eurotis’s system, in AISI 316L stainless steel. The installation follows the Italian standard for domestic gas systems, UNI 7129:2015.

Why we like it

  • Fewer joints along the run, so fewer weak points.
  • Quick to lay: unroll it, fix it, connect the ends.
  • Nothing on show: once the job is done, only the connection point is visible.

Working with manufacturers

Eurotis wrote up this job as a case history on its website (opens in a new tab) (in Italian). For us, manufacturers are people to talk to: we discuss solutions with them and put their materials to the test on site.

What happens when you get in touch

I’m Daniele Lantieri, managing partner and technical lead at LantierImpianti. Here’s what happens after you call or send a message.

I speak fluent English. From the first call to the end of the job, we handle everything in English: site visit, quote, works, and explaining every document you receive.

  1. You’ll speak to me

I answer the phone myself. If I’m on site, I’ll call you back as soon as I can: before the evening or the next morning.

  2. Tell me what’s going on, in your own words

You don’t need the technical terms — that’s our job. Just tell me what you can see or what isn’t working. A photo helps if you have one.

  3. I tell you what I’d do

For a small job, we agree a day. For bigger work, I come and take a look and then send you a written quote. The site visit for a quote is free.

  4. You decide, in your own time

Calling or writing commits you to nothing. Take the time you need, and feel free to get other opinions.
